Thirteen Postures Yangjia Michuan Taijiquan
This transcript will help those who are currently learning the thirteen postures, or those who have already learned it, to remember names and directions of movements. It is not meant to teach the form, but to be a learning aid. It would be impossible to learn this, or almost any, form from a transcript. This is an expanded version (in progress) in response to the requests of students. Feel free to e-mail me with comments and suggestions about the transcript.

Part two
Turn to right (east) 90 degrees.
The left hand moves from shoulder height, ending up in front
of the solar plexus, in tiger's mouth position.
The right hand drags at a diagonal from shoulder position,
ending up at the side of the body. Shift weight from right leg to
left and sink down on back (left) leg.
Drag Down
Raise the right leg (let the lower portion of leg
hang down) as you rise on the back.
Simultaneously the right hand comes up the side of
the body.
The right leg comes down on the heel, the right hand
slices down through the open tiger's mouth. Rise up on the back leg as
the right hand (with tiger's mouth) extends. Be sure to turn the waist towards
left as you rise up on back leg.
Circle Hands
The right hand circles back (half circle) in front of the face,
the left hand drops and circles back (half circle) along the lower front of the body.
Both hands point back (left hand faces north, right faces south). The gaze, meanwhile,
follows the right hand back, looking at the open palm, then finally towards the back direction.
Brush Knee/Twist Step
Turn the gaze forward (east), opening the waist. The left hand is cupped (hidden) by the left ear. Sink on the back (left) leg, step forward and to the right with the right leg.
The heel of front leg touches the ground first. The right hand brushes across
the front knee. Simultaneously open the waist and release the back heel (freeing the
knee). The momentum carries you forward. Weight shifts to front (right) leg, rise up and
push with left hand.
Wield the Pipa
Keeping the left upper arm where it is move the forearm into the chest (hand down)
and raise the right arm so that it is parallel to the shoulder and facing the side (south).
At the same time move the left foot behind the right (toe touches ground, heel up),
past the right heel. Sink down onto the left foot. Rising up, and turning
the waist to the left, the right arm moves across the front of the body, the right hand pointing up, the forearm rotating so the the open palm passes in front of the face. The
right arm is at approximately 120 degrees, not squared.
Sink down and turn the waist to the right, intention and body are now facing directly
forward (east). Straighten out the feet by stepping slightly forward (east) and rise on the back (left) leg, right arm, still at approximately 120 degrees, moving forward and rising as the body rises. The left hand is at the elbow, facing down.
Turn to left (west) 180 degrees.
The right foot pivots with the waist (follows the waist) and shoulders.
Plant the right foot when it is just past the center line (has turned past the north).
Shift the weight to the right leg and continue to turn the waist until you face the west.
The right hand moves extended ("pipa") position, ending up in front
of the solar plexus, in tiger's mouth position.
The left hand moves at a diagonal from beneath the right elbow,
ending up at the side of the body.
Sink down on back (right) leg.

and raise the left arm so that it is parallel to the shoulder and facing the side (south).
